Discussion questions 14 March 2026

These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.

1. Many people today describe themselves as “spiritual but not religious.” What might attract someone to personal spirituality while making organised community difficult?

2. What does the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42) suggest about the relationship between listening to Jesus, inner formation, and outward activity? Where do you see tension between these in your own life or in church life?

3. If every person within a church community has received spiritual gifts to serve God, why do many churches still rely on only a small group of active people? What spiritual, cultural or structural factors might contribute to that pattern?

4. When the church speaks about mission, there can still be an invisible line between “us” and “them.” How might that boundary shape our witness: is it possible to be distinctive and inclusive?

5. If our church disappeared tomorrow, who in our community would genuinely notice? What does this tell us about how clearly we are reflecting the love and presence of Jesus?
