Discussion Questions for 1 June 2024 “Extra Virgin Christianity”

These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed here.

  1. What part of the sermon was strongest for you (whether you liked it or disagreed with it) and why?
  2. Do you have a place you go to in order to talk to God / have space to reflect? Where is it or where would you like it to be? What keeps you from going there?
  3. What does the symbolism of Gethsemane as an olive press mean to you personally? How does understanding this symbolism enhance your appreciation of Jesus’ sacrifice?
  4. Read Hebrews 12:1-4. How can we apply the concept of “extra virgin Christianity” – a faith in Jesus’ sacrifice – to help us overcome our own trials and temptations?
  5. “Help will come when we ask for it” – does this help always come? How do we keep faith when help doesn’t come the way we expect in the timeline we want?
  6. How are you feeling “pressed” this week? What pressures / challenges are you facing? Pray together in your group to close.

Thank you for coming today and contributing to our discussion.
