11 May 2024 “Names of God: Yahweh-yireh”

These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed here.

  1. Share an experience where you saw in hindsight God’s providence.
  2. What is God calling you to do right now that is difficult? How does knowing God can foresee help us have faith in our journey?
  3. If Abraham had refused to take Isaac up Mount Mariah, would he still have been considered a man of faith? How does this scenario challenge our understanding of obedience and faith in God?
  4. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac raises significant ethical questions. Can an act that seems morally questionable ever be justified if it’s believed to be commanded by God? Are there any other examples in the Bible of God asking someone to do something contrary to His laws? How can we distinguish God’s will?
  5. Living in a world focused on “more,” how does the concept of Yahweh-yireh challenge the modern pursuit of happiness and success?
  6. How does Yahweh-yireh shift our focus from ourselves to divine reliance?

Thank you for coming today and contributing to our discussion.
