Discussion Questions for “Who is the Holy Spirit?” 11 June 2022

These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed below.

  1. Have you had a moment when you felt impressed by God to do something? Did you respond? What happened?
  2. What do you think are the implications of the Holy Spirit being a person as opposed to an essence?
  3. Read John 3:5-8
      • Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.  You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
    • What do you think Jesus is trying to communicate?
    • Do you find it natural to seek the Holy Spirit’s work in your life?
    • Do you think it’s possible to seek more of the Holy Spirit in your life? How?
  1. There are many different metaphors that describe the work of the Holy Spirit (rain, wind, fire, rebirth, resurrection). Which metaphor do you relate with the most in your life? If there is a way in which the Spirit works in your life that isn’t listed, feel free to share how you experience the Holy Spirit in your life.
  2. How can we experience more of the Holy Spirit? What does it mean to “go deeper”?
  3. Please share with each other something you’re grateful for from the week and something you’d like prayer for – then pray together as a group.
