Discussion questions 16 August 2025
These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.
1. What are some distractions in your life that pull your attention or energy away from what matters most? How do these distractions compare to those faced by people like David, Peter or the rich young ruler?
2. Read Hebrews 12:1-2 [click to read online]. What does it look like to “fix your eyes on Jesus”? What helps you do this?
3. Peter began to sink when he took his eyes off Jesus [Matthew 14:28-31 – click to read online]. What does this story tell us about fear, stress, or another distraction making it hard to trust God? In moments like that, what helps you to regain focus?
4. Not all distractions are bad. How do we know when it’s ok to be distracted?
5. Jesus often withdrew to quiet places to pray [Luke 5:16 – click to read online]. In our fast-paced lives, what are some rhythms or habits (a “rule of life”) that help you stay spiritually grounded and focused?
6. What’s one practical step you can take this week to remove a distraction, or to build or strengthen a habit that helps you keep your eyes on Jesus? How can we support one another in this?
