Anniversaries
Yesterday was the 30th anniversary of my baptism.
I was baptised into the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Saturday, 2 March 1991, at my home church in South Korea, the day before we immigrated to the USA.
Every year, I reflect on my journey with God and am amazed at how patient He is with me. He fills in where I lack and I experience grace over and over again.
One of my favourite Bible promises says:
“Because of theLord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion;
therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24
Anniversaries are great opportunities to celebrate the relationship but also to strengthen it. This year, I am re-committing to experiencing a deeper quality of time with God, where I am not so hurried but can linger in His presence and listen to His voice.
I want to re-dedicate myself and my family to Him, as did Joshua thousands of years ago. He faced the congregation of Israel and said:
“Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt,and serve the Lord.But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the
Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:14,15
There are so many temptations and distractions keeping us from prioritising God. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.
