God Runs

Children run.

Last Sunday our family was able to go to Werribee Zoo and finally see the robotic dinosaurs Joshua had waited over 3 months to see.

He was so excited that as soon as we entered the zoo gates, he ran towards the exhibit, not stopping to see the impressive gorillas or cuddly koalas along the way.  When he entered the exhibit, he squealed with delight and ran from one dinosaur to another, barely pausing until he got to his favourite – the large, roaring tyrannosaurus rex.

I had to run to keep up with him, amazed at how joy lit up his whole body.

Freedom Song

Archie Williams spent 36 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.  He was finally exonerated in 2019 and auditioned for America’s Got Talent a few weeks ago.  His audition and story went viral (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShgOH1u78XA) not only because of his soulful singing (he sang Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me) but also because of his indefatigable spirit.

One of my favourite movie scenes is from Shawshank Redemption (1994) when the main character Andy Dufresne risks severe punishment to play an except from the opera “The Marriage of Figaro” over the PA system of Shawshank State Penitentiary.  His fellow prisoner narrates that moment:
