Discussion Questions 15 February 2025 – “Get More Out of Church”
These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.
- Why did you come to church today?
- Have you ever struggled with feeling disconnected from church? What helped, or what could help?
- What holds us back from having deeper conversations with people at church? How can we overcome those barriers?
- What changes when you shift from seeing church as something you “attend” to something you actively contribute to? From measuring what you “get out of it” to praying about how you can “give into it”?
- How does talking about Jesus help us to “give” of our time, effort, resources, and hearts?
- The Bible presents several metaphors for the church – the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?”), the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are the body of Christ, and individually members of it.”), the Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27 “…Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her…”), a Household of God (Ephesians 2:19 “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.”), a Building of living stones (1 Peter 2:5 “You yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house…”), etc. Which metaphor most resonates with you and why?
