Discussion questions 23 August 2025
Sermon title: ‘How will you make it to the other side?’
These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.
1. There are roughly 33,000 people who identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in Greater Melbourne. If Jesus were living in Melbourne today, how might He show love and respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people here? What is one practical step we, as a church, could take to reflect that same love and respect?
2. The disciples said, “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish” (Matthew 14:17). When we face limitations or feel like we don’t have enough, how can faith help us move forward?
3. Peter walked on water until he focused on the storm instead of Jesus (Matthew 14:30). How does Peter’s experience reflect your own journey of faith during uncertain or difficult times?
4. What other Bible stories show someone trusting God to move forward? What do these teach us about how we, too, can trust that Jesus is with us on our journey?
5. Think of an aspect of your life right now — an uncertainty or a challenge — where you feel called to trust God more. What is one step you can take this week to walk in faith in that area?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and being involved in today’s discussion!
