Discussion questions 24 May 2025
These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.
1. Have you ever taken a long road trip or hiked a trail where you couldn’t see the destination, but kept going anyway? What helped you stay motivated and confident in your direction, even when the destination wasn’t visible?
2. Read and reflect on Ephesians 1:18–19 [click to read online]. What do you think it means to be “called to hope”? How might that change the way you view your life and purpose?
3. What’s the difference between “ordinary hope” and “deep hope” in your life? Can you think of a time when your hope felt like wishful thinking, or a time when it felt like an anchor?
4. How do your answers to “who are you?” and “what are you doing here?” change when you view them through the lens of God’s story: creation, fall, redemption, and restoration?
5. What does it look like to live each day with the “resurrection power” Paul describes in Romans 8:11 [click to read online]? In what areas of your life could this power bring new strength, purpose, or perspective?
6. What helps you re-anchor and reconnect with God’s deep hope when you’ve drifted or felt spiritually dry?
7. What interests, talents, or passions do you have that could be part of your deep hope within God’s redemptive story? For example: if you enjoy cooking, could your meals create spaces of welcome, healing, or celebration? If you have an eye for design, could your creativity reflect God’s beauty and order? Take a few moments and reflect on how God might be inviting you to live out this hope in your everyday life – through your work, relationships or community.
