Discussion questions 25 January 2025

These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.

  1. What are some approaches you have found useful when trying to understand what the Bible says about a particular topic? What might be some signs that a Bible passage is being taken out of context or distorting God’s truth?
  2. Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17 [click to read online]. How does this describe God’s word and how it is to be used? Are there other purposes of scripture that you can think of that aren’t listed in this particular passage?
  3. It’s important for us as Christians to stand firm in the truth revealed in the Bible; and it’s also important to keep an open mind and be prepared to explore new understandings and perspectives. How do you balance these two (somewhat contradictory) ideas?
  4. Jesus often used parables to share deep spiritual truths. Why do you think Jesus chose parables to communicate, and what does it teach us about how we should engage with God’s word today?
  5. Consider Psalm 119:105 – ‘Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” How can we ensure God’s word is a constant light in our daily life, particularly in moments we are facing doubt, uncertainty or challenges?
