Discussion questions for “How to listen to God’s voice”
These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed here.
1. Do you think there are differences between hearing and listening? Are you more likely to hear something if you are already listening out for it?
2. Which of the ways that God speaks to us (e.g. through nature, providence, the Holy Spirit, the Bible, or other examples) do you connect the most with?
3. What do you imagine when you think of God’s voice? What are some of the ways you may have heard or experienced this at moments in your own life?
4. Read and reflect on John 10:1-10. What can we learn from this passage about the importance of hearing God’s voice? How can we make sure that we are not mixing up God’s voice with our own feelings and emotions?
5. Read Luke 10:38-42. Who do you find you relate to the most in this story: Mary or Martha?
6. What might be some of the things that may distract us or prevent us from listening to God’s voice?
7. How do you interpret Jesus telling Martha there is only one “needed” thing?
8. What might sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to him look like in your life this week?
