These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed here.

  1. How would you define “trust” and “control” in the context of your life? Can you recall specific instances where you struggled with these two aspects?
  2. How does our modern society encourage a mindset of control and self-reliance? How can we intentionally counter this culture and cultivate a lifestyle of trust and obedience?
  3. Discuss the significance of Moses’ actions at the rock in Meribah (Numbers 20:1-13). How does this story illustrate the consequences of taking things personally and acting out of frustration rather than following God’s specific commands to bring water for the people? How can we learn from this example and strive to obey God’s instructions with a heart of compassion and grace when faced with challenging situations and difficult people?
  4. Reflect on a time when you or someone you know chose to trust God’s plan instead of trying to control the outcome. How did that experience impact your faith and sense of freedom?
  5. Discuss the concept of freedom in the context of surrendering to God. How can surrender paradoxically lead to a greater sense of fulfilment?
