These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed below.

  1. Have you ever experienced or witnessed a moment of “oneness/unity” that inspired or moved you?  Why was it so powerful?
  1. How does the view that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirt are equal and one impact our view of church structure? Our understanding of church roles? Is there room for hierarchy in the church?
  1. Do you think how one views the Trinity (equality vs hierarchy) influences how one views social issues such as race and gender? In what way?
  1. “When John calls Jesus ‘the only begotten of the Father,’ he is identifying Him as the one in whom Israel’s calling will be finally and full actualised.  Whereas Israel failed in its witness to the nations and, therefore, failed to draw the nations into their own Sonship relationship with God, Jesus will succeed.  He became the Son of God so that we might become the same – that we might be given the “right to become children of God.” The one who made the world took on the Sonship role so that we might be incorporated back into that role ourselves” (Ty Gibson, The Sonship of Christ” p 101.  What is this quote saying about Jesus?  About us?
  1. What was something from today’s sermon that you found meaningful? What made it meaningful?
  1. Please share with each other something you’re grateful for from the week and something you’d like prayer for – then pray together as a group.

Thank you for coming today and contributing to our discussion!
