Discussion Questions 9 August 2025

These questions are a starting point to help spark discussion that digs deeper into today’s topic – feel free to adapt or add additional questions of your own.

  1. Think of a close friend or family member. How is “being” with them — just enjoying their presence — different from “doing” something for them? Which one do you think deepens the relationship more, and why?
  2. Does it surprise you that Jesus’ first call to His disciples was simply to be with Him (Mark 3:14)? How is this call different from what we typically think of as “calling”?
  3. Martha welcomed Jesus into her home but became “worried and troubled about many things” (Luke 10:41). How might this story reflect the way we sometimes approach our relationship with God?
  4. Read Psalm 27:1-5. What enables David to not be afraid? What does it look like to “dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life”?
  5. Many Christians today feel guilty if they’re not constantly “doing” for God. Why do you think we often measure our faithfulness by activity rather than intimacy with God?
  6. Hudson Taylor discovered that faith grows not by striving but by resting in the Faithful One. What might “resting” look like for you in a season when God feels distant or silent?
  7. What is one practical way you could create space to be with God this week?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and being involved in today’s discussion!
