Discussion questions for “From Guard to Guide”

These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed here.

1. Think of a time you were learning something new. What style of instruction did you find the most helpful? Or if you had a bad experience, what put you off from continuing with it?

2. Jesus did not tolerate the temple being used for commercial purposes and people exploiting others who came to worship at the temple. What are some examples of moments we might defend Christianity, and how might we approach this?

3. “Jesus answered them, ‘Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days.’” (John 2:19). How do you interpret the parallels this verse draws between the physical template and Jesus?

4. What are some ways we can follow in Jesus’ example of guiding people by shifting the focus from what the world values to God?

5. If our interactions with others focus mainly on guarding the status quo, what blessings or opportunities might we miss out on when guiding people to Jesus?

6. Have you experienced having a guide or mentor in your Christian walk? If so, how did they share wisdom or advice, and what impact did it have on you?

7. Please share with each other something you’re grateful for from the week and something you’d like prayer for – then pray together as a group.
