Table Activities for 18 May 2024

Communion is about community + union and what better day than today to get to know each other better? Today in lieu of discussion time we will be doing some activities to connect – feel free to sit at any of the 3 tables.

Description of the Activities:

  • Jenga Sharing Table

    • Set up the tower by stacking the blocks in sets of 3 (each new layer of parallel blocks should be rotated at 90 degrees).  Straighten the tower.  Each person takes turns pulling a block from the tower without making the tower fall.  Then, he or she must answer the question on the block & then put the block back on top of the tower.  Keep playing until the tower falls!

  •  Creative Sharing Table

    • First round: choose a charm that represents something you’re grateful for or something that brings you joy.  Once everyone has chosen, go around the table & share what you’ve chosen and why.
    • Second round: choose a charm that represents something that’s been challenging for you this year / something you’d like prayer for.  Once everyone has chosen, go around the table & share what you’ve chosen and why.
    • Third round: choose a charm that represents something you’re looking forward to/wanting.  A dream, a goal, a prayer.  Once everyone has chosen, go around the table & share what you’ve chose and why.

  • Spoons Sharing Table

    • Start the game by arranging all the spoons in the middle of the table (1 less than # of people present – so if there are 5 people, only have 4 spoons). Then the dealer may deal four cards to each player. The dealer should keep the remaining cards in a pile next to him/her.
    • At the beginning of each round, the dealer takes a card off the top of the deck – he or she can either pass it on or swap it out for one of the cards in his/her hand. The discarded card is then passed face down to the player on their left.
    • This continues around the circle of players with each player taking a card from the person on their right, choosing whether to keep it and passing one card on to the next player. Each player discards to the person on their left.
    • The last player places his/her discarded card into a discard pile and the next round begins when the dealer picks up a new card. If at any time the draw cards run out, pause to reshuffle the discard pile and keep going.
    • Play continues quickly until someone gets four of a kind. At that time, the player discreetly takes a spoon from the centre. Once the player with four of a kind takes a spoon, anyone can take a spoon. The player left without a spoon has to answer a question from the list below.
    • Once answered, reshuffle & begin the game again!
    • Choose a question to answer:
          • What was a highlight from your week?
          • Who is someone you admire?
          • Where did you grow up? What was your favourite place there?
          • What did you want to be when you were little?
          • If you were given a 2-week holiday and $20,000 where would you go? What would you do? Who would you go with?
          • What is your favourite book or movie?

Thank you for joining us today!
