Discussion Questions 7 Dec 2024: Blessed
These questions are here to stimulate dialogue about today’s topic – feel free to skip around or discuss items not listed below.
- What was most memorable for you from the sermon (whether you liked or disliked it)?
- Read Matthew 5:3-12. How does Jesus challenge traditional ideas about being “happy” or “blessed” in the Beatitudes? What do His words show us about God’s values and priorities?
- The angel Gabriel described Mary as “favored” by God, and Elizabeth called her “blessed among women,” even though Mary faced many difficulties. How would you define what it means to be blessed by God?
- Paul, a first-century Christian, found joy in suffering because it served his mission and purpose. Can you think of a time when having a clear sense of purpose helped you endure a difficult situation?
- Are there any specific challenges in your life right now that God might be using to draw you closer to Him or to prepare you to serve others?
- If you were to write your own beatitudes based on your life experiences, what would they be? For example: “Blessed are the exhausted, for they will find rest in God.”
