The Wonder of It All

Whenever a child is born, I am reminded of the miracle of life.  But never have I felt this as keenly as last week when I witnessed the birth of my nephew.  Although I’ve given birth to two beautiful boys, it was different this time, being at the sidelines observing the process.

A lot can and often does go wrong.  Whether it’s in the womb or during the labour and delivery, there are so many risk factors that make the actual birth a complete miracle.  Despite the advances in science and medicine, the creation of a new human being with their unique personality still leaves us to wonder and worship.

“You are the one who put me together

inside my mother’s body,

and I praise you because of

the wonderful way

you created me…”

Psalm 139:13,14

The miracle of childbirth gives me hope that God is also able to re-create each of us into His image, to be born again as children of God.  Born into a worldwide church family.  Born to become like Jesus.  Born to be loved.

“There’s the wonder of sunset at evening,

The wonder as sunrise I see;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul

Is the wonder that God loves me.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.” ~ A hymn

"But those who drink the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." John 4:14
